ABSTRACT

Metabolic alkalosis, defined as a primary increment in plasma bicarbonate concentration, is a common complication in hospitalized patients and is associated with high morbidity and mortality in severe cases. Metabolic alkalosis is the most common acid base disorder in patients with congestive heart failure and it is usually associated with diuretic therapy. In this case, we aimed to discuss the treatment management of resistant metabolic alkalosis following coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Keywords:
diuretic therapy; coronary artery bypass grafting; metabolic alkalosis.
