ABSTRACT

Complementary nutrition is usually advised to begin between 4 and 6 months of age. We reported an infant presenting with unknown material in her faeces diagnosed as undigested vegetable fiber due to banana fed by her mother. A 3 months-old girl was presented with with unknown material in her faeces. She was well-developed with normal percentile levels. We learned feeding her with banana by her mother the night before. Gaita microscopy was revealed undigested vegetable fibers. Her parents were informed about complementary nutrition and not to start any food before 4th months in addition to breast milk. Her faeces was normal 1st day after stopping the banana. Physicians should obtain information of infant’s feeding in well-baby follow-up from parents in terms of nutrition mistakes which can be resulted in malnutrition.
