ABSTRACT
It is accepted that Xanthogranulomatous Cholecystitis (XC) is a variant of chronic cholecystitis. Its clinical findings and course do not differ from cholecystitis or cholelithiasis. It may not be clearly identified from carcinoma of the gallbladder preoperatively or during the operation due to the remarkable thickness of the gallbladder wall. Ultrasonography, computed tomography, fine needle aspiration biopsy and intraoperative frozen section are the measurements used for diagnosis. The diagnosis is important in order to prevent complications and plan the types and width of surgical treatment. Cholecystectomy is the treatment of choice whether cholelithiasis is present or not.
