ABSTRACT

It is highly important to use humanistic teaching techniques in medical education in accordance with the principle of "Primum nil nocere - Do not primarly give harm". Skills development education with the use of similators (or models) is getting common in different areas. The models used in Medicine make it possible for the student to practice many a skill before facing real patients. Students will have an opportunity to acquire basic medical skills without giving any harm to the patient through model practices used in skills laboratories. It will also be possible to graduate better doctors by primarily training students at the skills laboratories for basic medical interventions and then having them practice these skills with real patients. In sum, it is thought that the use of skills laboratories and models in medical training will cause great decrease in the number of medical faults and lead to a better and effective health service to be presented.
