ABSTRACT
There are no large series about the management of genu recurvatum deformity with the use of Ilizarov technique except for a few case reports. In our study genu recurvatum deformity in 8 patients was treated with Ilizarov technique. The mean age of the patients was 20.2 (18-23) years. In all the patients the deformity was of osseous origin. Preoperative recurvatum and mean tibial plateau tilt angles were 19.7 (15 to 27) and 77 (64 to 92) degrees, respectively. Postoperative recurvatum and mean tibial plateau tilt angles were 1 (0-2) and 94 (89-99) degrees, respectively. Crecentric osteotomy at the proximal tibia and repair of deformity with Ilizarov external fixator were performed to the patients. The mean duration of treatment with Ilizarov method was 52 (27-77) days, and the mean duration of the stay of external fixation was 155 (92-207) days. Pin-tract infection as a complication was observed in three patients. In conclusion Ilizarov method is an alternative modality in the treatment of genu recurvatum deformity.
