ABSTRACT

We aimed to evaluate the effects of mild primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) disease on stereopsis and to compare the results with the normal population. Forty-three mild POAG patients and 30 age and sex-matched healthy controls were enrolled this study. Far and near stereoacuity was evaluated using Mentor BVAT System and TNO test, respectively, in both groups. Mean age of glaucoma and control groups were 59 ± 12 and 58±6 years, respectively (p=0.845). There were 17 (40%) men and 26 women (60%) in glaucoma group and 14 men (47%) and 16 women (53%) in control group (p=0.461). The median (min-max) stereoacuity assessed with Mentor BVAT System was 120 (30-240) seconds of arc in POAG group and 60 (60-120) seconds of arc in control group (p=0.008). With TNO test the median stereoacuity was 120 (30-240) seconds of arc in POAG group and 60 (30-120) seconds of arc in control group (p=0.025). According to the far and near stereopsis test results that performed both POAG and control groups, POAG significantly affects far and near depth perception even in early stages of the disease.
