ABSTRACT

Eruptive vellus hair cyst is a rare, benign dermatosis characterized by numerous, smooth, dome-shaped papules primarily affecting the chest and extremities. Eruptive vellus hair cyst is primarily a disease of children and young adults although the affected age ranges from birth to elderly. The disease has a benign course and no malignant transformation has been reported to date. Various treatment modalities, including topical and systemic retinoids, laser therapy, dermabrasion and surgical approach have been used for eruptive vellus hair cyst with mixed results. In this article, we present a 7-year-old child with a diagnosis of eruptive vellus hair cyst, in whom we achieved good cosmetic results using a surgical technique with incision and drainage of the lesions, and discuss the treatment modalities of this rare entity under the light of the literature covering the disease.
