ABSTRACT

Thanks to the rapid advances in methods of endoscopic surgery, minimally invasive methods are gradually replacing conventional techniques in gynecologic surgery. Robotic surgery methods are the most recent point of the minimally invasive methods. Robotic hysterectomy is the most common example in which minimally invasive gynecological surgery procedures. In this case, we would like to present the first robotic hysterectomy case within university hospitals in Turkey. Myoma uteri was diagnosed in a 48 years old woman with a history of pelvic pain and intermittent bleeding, and she has been scheduled for robotic hysterectomy. Informed consent had been taken before the operation. The robotic hysterectomy was performed using Da Vinci robotic system. The robotic hysterectomy operation started with the central docking technique under general anesthesia. The docking time was 34 minutes, total operation time was 148 minutes. Estimated intraoperative blood loss was 40 ml and the uterus weiged 350 grams. There were no intraoperative complication. The patient was discharged on the postoperative second day. In university hospitals, the robotic procedures are important for application of the advanced endoscopic methods and for assistant training. With the expansion of robotic hysterectomy experience, operation time and morbidity of the patients are expected to decrease and the overall comfort of the patients would be increased. The aim of this case report was to share the first robotic hysterectomy experience within university hospitals in Turkey.
