ABSTRACT

Conventional methods used for the retention of maxillofacial prostheses are far from providing efficient and satisfactory retention. In the last decades, the high success rates of implant supported intraoral prostheses have led to the use of osseointegrated implants to overcome the retention problems of maxillofacial prostheses. A literature review about the main concepts and application principles of implant supported maxillofacial prostheses are presented in the present article.
