ABSTRACT
Tooth mobility, gingival recession and deep periodontal defects are not usually the result of the orthodontic tooth movement, but excessive forces may sometimes cause unacceptable results in the therapy. The purpose of this case report is to present the treatment procedure for a mobile canine tooth with deep periodontal defect due to excessive orthodontic force.
The presented case is 17 years old female with Class II Division I malocclusion. Department of orthodontics was planned to distalize patient's upper canine with a new developed individual tooth-borne distractor. However, this rapid distalization caused mobility and increase in the periodontal probing pocket depth measurements of upper left canine.
In this case, the orthodontic treatment was ceased and patient's deep periodontal defect around the upper canine tooth was first filled with demineralized freeze dried bone and covered with a collagen barrier membrane. The patient was observed for one year. Deep periodontal probing pocket depths are reduced to 2 mm, and the mobility is totally eliminated.
