ABSTRACT
Pulmonary air leaks are a common problem encountered in newborns administered ventilation support for respiratory distress. Pulmonary interstitial emphysema is defined as the passage of air into the perivascular interstitial tissue and interstitial septa of the lung because of the rupture of alveols. A case of pulmonary interstitial emphysema developing due to severe contralateral lung atelectasis after the cessation of ventilation support administered for mild respiratory distress syndrome is herein presented and discussed.
