ABSTRACT

Pseudocyst of spleen is a rare clinical condition, and it usually develops secondarily to trauma. A 37-year-old female patient admitting with the complaint of pollakiuria is reported in this article. Ultrasonographic examination revealed a cystic lesion with the size of 14x10x10 cm in the spleen. Considering also the findings of computed tomography, the cystic mass was interpreted as a hydatid disease, and the patient underwent partial splenectomy. Histopathological examination showed a cystic lesion with a thick fibrous capsule and without a lining epithelium. There were no findings supporting the diagnosis of hydatid cyst. In the present case report histopathological differential diagnoses of cystic lesions of the spleen, including epithelial cyst and cyst hydatid are reviewed with literature review.
