ABSTRACT

Neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia (NAIT) is one of the etiological factors of severe neonatal thrombocytopenia; it is caused by feto-maternal incompatibility of “thrombocyte specific alloantigens”. Intracranial hemorrhage is the most severe complication of NAIT and it can be seen in the prenatal period. It is diagnosed by medical history, clinical findings, laboratory studies and ruling out the other reasons of neonatal thrombocytopenia. Paraurethral cysts are rarely seen yellow-orange color cystic mass and found at the bilateral urethral meatus. They are usually not recognized. In the present paper, a newborn baby with indirect hyperbilirubinemia who was diagnosed incidentally as NAIT and paraurethral cyst at the routine clinical and laboratory examination is reported. We would like to remind them to the neonatal health personell again; and present the co-existence of NAIT and paraurethral cyst.
