ABSTRACT

Retained surgical material (Gossypiboma) is a rare complication of surgery. Although surgically retained materials is commonly reported in the abdominal cavity, it may be seen in different sites of the body. We herein report a case of surgically retained intrathoracic material in a woman who had hiatal hernia surgery one year ago. She was admitted to our outpatient clinic with a shortness of breath and palpitation. We detected the increased of mitral valve gradient and mitral regurgitation due to a retained surgical material.
