ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to determine the preferences and expectations of healthy individuals in case they were diagnosed with a fatal disease. The study was carried out qualitatively with 27 academicians. After the qualitative data were analyzed, three themes were formed which were “It is necessary to know the truth”, “There is a reason of ignoring the truth”, “The truths affect the expectations”. According to the results of our study, it was determined that there was different personal reasons between individuals who want to know the truth and who want to ignore the truth, and the state of knowing death also differentiate the expectations.
