ABSTRACT

This study was planned as a descriptive study to determine the expectations of nursing students from the intern education program before starting the program and to evaluate their acquisitions and suggestions at the end of program, which has initially been introduced during the 2006–2007 season. The population of the study was 116 senior students included in the intern education program. The survey forms used in collecting data were developed by the researchers considering the objectives and intentions of the intern education program, and were applied to the students before and after the intern program making necessary explanations. In conclusion the intern education program which was first introduced in the Nursing High School of Gulhane Military Medical Academy provided an increase in the professional capabilities of the students, supported the students in feeling themselves more sufficient and ready for their job with a higher self-esteem, and reached the goals determined for the students.
