ABSTRACT
Stroke is one of the leading causes of death and disability in major industrial countries. The inflammatory response plays an important role in the potentiation of central nervous system (CNS) ischemic injury. Inflammatory response is mediated by cytokines. In this study we investigated two of the cytokines: interleukin- 6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor - alpha (TNF-alpha) in an experimentally induced stroke (n=12) mice group and sham (n=9) mice group. Stroke caused significant increases both on the levels of IL-6 and TNF-alpha in the stroke group (p=0.000).
