ABSTRACT

This study was performed to determine the sociodemographic characteristics and satisfaction status of and to determine the correlation of these factors with sociodemographic variables of elderly cases residing in Haydarpaşa Çamlıca Special Care Center of Gülhane Military Medical Academy. A total of 149 residents were interviewed personally in this center. A survey form including a total of 43 questions about catering, medical, social and administration services was used. The rate of corresponding to the survey was 85%. The mean age of residents was 81.3 years. Of the residents 67.2% were female, 54% had an education level of high school or more and all had settled at the center voluntarily. Twenty eight per cent was settling for more than 7 years. It was detected that satisfaction rate decreased with the increasing education level, female residents were more satisfied from all services in general, and satisfaction rate decreased with the increasing period of residing. Results of the present study showed that especially residents with higher education levels and male nursing home residents were less satisfied. Periodic satisfaction studies in such institutes will be suitable to determine the efficacy of services given. Future studies with qualitative studies such as detailed deep interviews would permit to obtain richer data considering important issues for residents in special care centers.
