ABSTRACT

Existence of fibrous crests negatively affects the success of treatment in making prosthetic restorations. A fibrous crest occurs in crests without dentine as the mucosa can not follow the rapid resorption of alveolar bone. This structure is also named as flabby ridge. Displaceable, hyperplastic or flabby tissues are commonly seen in combination syndrome and front part of the maxilla. Impression that will be taken in the presence of resorbed alveolar crests and mobile mucosa surrounding it requires a special concern since tissues displaced during impression tends to turn its original form after the impression. In the event of impression flabby ridge region should separately be fixed and integrated with the impression of healthy tissues to avoid loose of retention and stability of the prosthesis. In this article the method of taking the impression of flabby ridge with soft lining material as an alternative to conventional impression technique in constructing a complete prosthesis of the patient with fibrous crest in front side of the maxilla is described.
