ABSTRACT

This study is a case report, who has an accessory spleen. The accessory spleen, which was 3.7 x 3.3 x 1.4 cm, was near the upper pole of the normal spleen in left hypochondriacal region. An artery originating directly from the splenik artery and 1.1mm in diameter, supplied the accessory spleen, whose venous drenaje was carried out by a vein, 1.2 mm in diameter. Accessory spleen is observed in up to 10% of the population. Although often placed at the splenic hilus and pancreatic tail, it can be seen at any place including thoracic cavity. Because gross and microscopic features are similar to the splenic tissue, diseases affecting the spleen may also affect the accessory spleen. We present this case to stress its clinical importance.
