ABSTRACT

Organizational commitment refers to a psychological connection between the employee and the organization defined as identification with involment in, and loyalty to the organization. In this study, Organizational Commitment Questionnaire, which had been developed by Meyer and Allen was used to measure the military physicians’ organizational commitment. A total of 900 physicians who were working in 39 military hospitals of Turkish Health Commandership from different regions of Turkey have formed the study environment. Quantitative research and survey method was basically used in the study. In the study 91.8% of the participants were male, 88.0% were married, 39.0% were between 36 to 40 years of age, 91.0% were specialist, 92.0% did not have a managing job, and the least agreed (11.2%) suggestion was “one of the major reasons I continue to work in this organization is that leaving would require considerable personal sacrifice; another organization may not match the overall benefits I have here”, and the most agreed (60.0%) suggestion was “I really feel as if this organization’s problems were my own”. There were significant relationships between military physicians’ organizational commitment and gender, the status of specialties, duty and age, while there was no significant relationship between organizational commitment and marital status.
