ABSTRACT
Mumps is an acute viral infection characterized by painful enlargement of the salivary glands caused by mumps virus. Serious complications such as meningoencephalitis, pancreatitis, orchitis, epididymitis, myocarditis, arthritis, thyroiditis, hearing loss and dachryoadenitis may be seen during the course of mumps. Presternal edema, a rare complication of mumps, was encountered in a 7-year-old boy who was diagnosed to have mumps. Edema disappeared spontaneously in seven days without any treatment in parallel with the resolution of the mumps.
