The relationship between sociodemographic characteristics and organizational justice perceptions of military physicians and organizational commitment through structural equation modelling

This study is conducted to measure factors affecting the organizational commitment of physicians working at military hospitals in Turkey. Organizational Commitment Questionnaire (OCQ) that was developed by Meyer and Allen and widely used in the literature was used to measure the organizational commitment of physicians. In this study, sample was not selected, and all physicians working at 39 military hospitals in 2009 when this survey conducted were attempted to arrive. Finally, 900 questionnaires were distributed in all military hospitals in Turkey, but 546 were collected. The study showed that emotional and normative commitment of military physicians had more weights on their organizational commitment than continuance commitment. Also, the results showed that organizational commitment of physicians levels changed by demographic characteristics such as their speciality (t=2,108; p<0,05), managerial position (t=-3,886; p<0,001) and their perceptions about organizational justice (t=11,966; p<0,001), but did not change by gender, working duration and army forces of military hospitals at which they have been working. This findings suggest that some measures should be be taken to improve particularly the physicians who are specialist and not have managerial position.
