In this study it was aimed to retrospectively present the treatment results of 168 military patients diagnosed to have tuberculosis at our hospital in 2007 and to compare these with those data in the previous years. Bacteriological examination was performed in all the cases. In the patients the appropriate treatment was begun according to the World Health Organization Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines for Tuberculosis, they were followed during the next 6-12 months, and treatment results were assessed at the end of this period. Of the patients, 162 (96.4%) were newly diagnosed and 6 (3.6%) were previously diagnosed. Of the newly diagnosed patients, 127 (78.4%) had pulmonary tuberculosis and 35 (21.6%) had extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Of the patients diagnosed to have ekstrapulmonary tuberculosis, 45 (97.8%) had pleural tuberculosis and one (2.2%) had tuberculosis peritonitis, and 87 (68.5%) and 40 (31.5%) were smear positive and negative, respectively. Thirty one (88.6%) and 4 (11.4%) of 35 patients diagnosed to have extrapulmonary tuberculosis completed the treatment and were transferred out, respectively. The total treatment success (cure/completion of the treatment) was 89.9%. High cure rates are encouraging regarding tuberculosis control in our country. Treatment after certain diagnosis and therapy under observation would provide successful results in tuberculosis control in countrywide.
