The purpose of this study is to determine whether the patient safety culture changes according to the socio-cultural characteristics of the employees or not. The study was conducted in Gülhane Military Medical Academy (GMMA) Educational Hospital during June 2010. Data were collected from 428. In our study, it was aimed to assess “patient safety culture” by using survey method. An “expert view” was asked for identifying the validity of the scales’ contents used in the study. And, “factor analysis” was used for testing their structural validity. In order to assess the reliability of the scales, Croanbach Alfa values were calculated. Whether patient safety culture differed depending on the socio-cultural characteristics of the employees was analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test, by Mann-Whitney U test, and by Logistic Regression Analysis. Considering this, most of the staff (68,1%) reported positive level of patient safety culture at their departments. Furthermore, occupation was found to be influential on “patient safety culture” and the dimensions of “hospital management support” and “process”. The errors made while providing health services cause the results that cannot be compensated. The key for decreasing the number of medical errors is the existence of high-level safety culture. To do this, emphasis of the “patient safety culture” of especially health administrators and decision makers is of vital importance.
