15 female and 20 male patients were included in the study in which we aimed to evaluate the serum and tissue prolidase levels after the hyperbaric oxygen (HBO2) therapy. All the cases had chronic refractory wound.

HBO2 therapy was applied twice a day in 90-minute periods at 2 ATA. The treatment was discontinued after 30 periods. We collected venous blood samples and made skin biopsies before and after treatment.

The prolidase enzyme was evaluated in serum and tissue samples before and after treatment. The prolidase enzyme activity in serum and tissue samples had a significant decrease after therapy (p<0.001). We conclude that HBO2 therapy decreased the degradation of collagen by corrected hypoxia around chronic wound.
