Diagnosis and Treatment Characteristics of the in-patients who were Treated at the Gülhane Military Medical Academy, Department of Pediatrics in 2001

The present study in which we investigated diagnosis and treatment characteristics of 1253 in-patients who were treated at Gülhane Military Medical Academy Pediatry Department in 2001 is a descriptive study.

The mean age of in-patients is 2.4± 3.4 years (median = 1). 54.5% of in-patients are male and 42.8% of them are 0-year-old group. The most frequently seen diagnosis was acute gastroenteritis (10.0%). The most frequently diagnosis was hyperbiluribinemia among neonatals, pneumonia among postneonatals, acute gastroeneteritis among 1 and 2-year-old groups and pnemonia among 3-year-olds and the older group. 97.8% of in-patients were discharged. 4 in-patients were referred to the Cardiovascular Surgery Department for surgery. 21 of the 25 inpatients who died during their treatment were neonatals. Respiratory Distress Syndrome and sepsis were the first two causes of deaths in neonatals.
