Assessment of health promotion behavior of adolescents in a high school

Adolescent period is the most brilliant period of health. This situation may be overlooked in adolescent health problems which may occur. In the literature, determining the factors that affect adolescent and risk behaviors, the appropriate age periods reported improved health strategies. The purpose of this research, assessment of health promotion behavior of adolescents in a high school. This study was conducted between February to May 2013 as a cross-sectional research. This research was carried out in a trade vocational school with 932 students between the ages of 13 to 19. Data collection form includes questions about the students’ socio-demographic characteristics and Adolescent Health Promotion Scale. In this study, Cronbach's α value of Adolescent Health Promotion Scale is found 0.90 and total scale score is 132.1 ± 24.6 (40-196). The 50.4% of girl students and the 52.7% of boy students were found to have high percentage of scale mean scores and A significant difference wasn’t found in groups at total scale scores (p>0.05). Percentege of nineth class students were found higher than high class students in nutrition and exercise (p<0.05). As a participants’ mothers’ education level; 13.4% of students, whose mother has primary education or lower than this education level, have high avarage of scale scores and a significant difference wasn’t found between mother education level with scale sub-components and total scale scores (p>0.05). A significant difference was found between participants’ fast-food consume status with take high scores status on health responsibilities sub-component and total scale scores (p<0.05). Assessed whether the desired level of health promotion behaviors of adolescents.
