The Evaluation of Family Functions of Families with Handicapped Children

Families with handicapped children may have many problems. This study was designed to evaluate the variables affecting the family function of families with handicapped children. Family Evaluating Scale and Questionnary Form were used to get the data of the families. Questionnaire Forms were given to 145 families with handicapped children admitted to Pediatrics Department. In mother group, accusing themselves for handicapping of children affected the general function, roles and emotional reactions. In fathers group, accusing wives for handicapping of children affected the general function, emotional reaction and communication. This study shows that it is essential to determine and to solve the problems of the families with handicapped children.
