Aims:

To assess the level of knowledge of private dentists in Ordu about oral radiological imaging techniques and radiation safety.

Methods:

We have informed 47 private dentists about the purpose and the goals of this study. A survey containing 23 questions was used to gather information about the radiographic equipment and level of knowledge about the protection from radiation.

Results:

Age of participants were between 24-66 years (43.28±10.23), professional experience was between 1-40 years (19.87±10.14). For intraoral imaging, 82.5% of the participants preferred round cone. While 40% of the participants owned lead shielding, 15% of them reported that they stayed with patient without any protection during imaging. %45 respondents knew that CBCT requires lower radiation than CT.

Conclusions:

We think that more studies should be done to improve the awareness of private dentists about advancements on radiological imaging techniques and radiation safety.
