School culture in health education institutions: Gulhane Military Medical Academy (GMMA), Health Noncommissioned Officer College Example

The aim of this study is to investigate the perception of school culture of the students and trainees of Health Noncommissioned Officer College (HNOC) in the GMMA. The population of the study consists of 126 HNOC college students studying in second class and 97 graduated trainee. The scale participation rate was 90,5% (n=202). The scale of Organizational Culture in Educational Institutions developed by Erdem and İşbaşı was used as data collection tool. Result of factor analysis, Organizational Culture surveyed for the five dimensions. The terms of the five dimensions, significant differences found between these groups. The NCOs have positive perception for the symbol dimension including ceremony and military training whereas the HNOC students have positive perception than the NCOs for the rest of the dimensions. In order to strengthen the culture of school, activities and projects enriching communication and cooperation between the students and the academic staff should be organized.
