Inguinal hernia is extremely rare in female newborns, and the hernia sac may sometimes involve intestinal structures and ovaries. Early diagnosis of a possible ovarian torsion is essential because potential amenable benefits can be achieved with surgery. Two newborns with herniation of the ovaries into the inguinal hernia sac are reported in this article. Ovarian torsion was diagnosed by color Doppler ultrasonography in one of the newborns, wheras there were no ultrasonographic signs of torsion in the other case. The ultrasonographic and color Doppler ultrasonographic findings in both cases and the role of these modalities in the differential diagnosis of ovarian torsion are discussed.
