Assessment of Bladder Diaries of Women Diagnosed With Overactive Bladder Syndrome

Objective:

This study is a case-control study designed to examine bladder diaries of women diagnosed with overactive bladder (OAB) and reveal the differences between those and the bladder diaries of women without any urinary problems.

Material and Methods:

The study group was comprised of 150 women between the ages of 40-60 who applied to the Urogynecology Unit to treat for an overactive bladder syndrome. Another 150 women between ages 40-60, who were accompanying patients staying in the same hospital and had no urinary problems, comprised the control group. Participant information forms and bladder diaries have been used for determining the demographic and general health characteristics of the women and assessing their urinary habits.

Results:

The differences between menopausal status, pregnancy, birth, miscarriage, dilatation and curettage numbers, body mass indices and smoking status of the women with overactive bladder syndrome and the control group were statistically insignificant. According to bladder diaries, 99.3% of the group with overactive bladder suffered from urinary incontinence and that mean amount of the liquid, amount of liquid with and without diuretic effect consumed, frequency of voiding for 24 hours, in the daytime and at night and urgency rate higher compared to the control group.

Conclusion:

This study was determined that OAB symptoms affect the urinary habits of the women with OAB adversely.
